All the television networks are abuzz with activity with the upcoming premieres of their new fall shows. And one of the new shows that is expected to become a crowd favorite is Chuck, for is it from Josh Schwartz, creator of the breakout hit The O.C. Also involved in Chuck is McG, best known for directing We Are Marshall. Schwartz has since expressed that Chuck is a hybrid of Alias and The Office. NBC, on the other hand, describes Chuck as a science fiction drama, with a little bit of humor mixed in. It is about young spies and is expected to premiere on September 24, 2007 and will thereafter air on Monday nights at 8:00/7:00c on NBC. Chuck will also air on Channel Nine in Australia, and CityTV in Canada. Chuck is being produced by Wonderland Sound and Vision, College Hill Pictures, and Warner Bros. Television.
The storyline of Chuck is straightforward but dabbles with science fiction. The titular character, Chuck, is an average computer geek who works in an electronics shop with his best friend. One day, Chuck receives an email from his former university roommate, who is now a CIA agent. The email contains government secrets and spy data, and inadvertently, all the secrets are downloaded into Chuck's brain. Chuck then becomes a very valuable person, and this is where the fun starts! The government offices of NSA and CIA sent their respective agents to recover the data, but in time they became Chuck's protectors as he tried to use his espionage knowledge (which come in memory flashes) to help save the world. For all his brave actions, Chuck, however, opted to keep his spy life secret from his family and tries to live as normally as possible.
The characters in Chuck are the following: Zachary Levi plays the lead character, Chuck Bartowski. Sarah Lancaster plays Chuck's sister, Dr. Ellie Bartowski, who has nothing but good intentions for her brother and is helping him find a girlfriend. Joshua Gomez plays Chuck's bestfriend and co-worker, Morgan Santos. Yvonne Strzechowski plays Sarah Walker, the CIA agent, and Adam Baldwin plays Major John Casey, the NSA agent. Another character, Kayla Hart, is still unspecified but has been cast to Natalie Martinez already. The pilot episode of Chuck introduces us to Chuck's geeky and dateless life that is about to become exciting. Privileged viewers already saw the pilot, directed by McG, last July 27, 2007 at the Comic-Con International in San Diego. Zachary Levi, who plays Chuck, describes the series as The Bourne Supremacy and The 40-Year-Old Virgin combined. So if you want something new in your Monday nights, watch Chuck, the one and only scifi dramedy on NBC's fall lineup. Chuck will premiere on September 24, 2007 at 8:oo/7:00c on NBC.
